A SHARED HISTORY, SHARED DESTINY: REVISITING CAGAYAN’S HISTORY WITH MAINLAND CHINA THROUGH ORIENTALIA CAGAYANA
TUGUEGARAO CITY- Following Cagayan Governor Manuel N. Mamba’s plans to reopen the Aparri Port, which ceased to operate 12 years ago, the Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center relives the cultural exchange between Ancient China and Cagayan through the opening of the Orientalia Cagayana Exhibit. Long before the arrival of the Spaniards in the early 1500s, men from foreign lands, particularly the Chinese and Japanese, exchanged their goods and products with our ancestors. Since there was no established international standard of money exchange during those times, the value is determined solely by its rarity and beauty. By means of beauty, China was famous for its beautiful and high quality pottery—porcelain. Since China is abundant in clay and skilled craftsmen, porcelain was a main trading product in the Orients and the Middle East during Ancient times. As we proudly present our Oriental collection brought by China to our province centuries ago, we have a chance to look at a shared history and most likely a shared destiny as well.
